But seldom do they stop to apply the standard of sola scriptura to their own beliefs. If they did, they would find that some of them don’t come from the Bible at all but from a theological tradition they received from a parent or pastor. Let’s look at three examples of extrabiblical Protestant traditions. As the Jews professed to revere the law, so do Romanists claim to reverence the cross. They exalt the symbol of Christ's sufferings, while in their lives they deny Him whom it represents. Papists place crosses upon their churches, upon their altars, and upon their garments. Everywhere is seen the insignia of the cross.

I can tell you, as a former Protestant myself, and as a recent theologian who has studied Church history in very good detail: many Protestants who are in search of truth and who are willing to give up their livelihoods for Christ (that is, their high-paying positions in Protestant institutions) do make the decision and cross over to the Catholic Church. A United Methodist is a Christian who has professed faith in Jesus Christ as Savior, put his or her whole trust in Christ’s grace and promised to serve him as Lord as a member of The United Methodist Church, a worldwide church that welcomes persons of all ages, nations and races. Protestantism is both an ecclesial movement of the Church, and a devotional urge within the believer. Historically, that which may be called “the Protestant faith” emerged from perceived and undeniable abuses within the Roman Catholic Church during the late fifteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth centuries in the British Isles and Northern Europe.

Protestantism is the second-largest form of Christianity with a total of million to 1 billion adherents worldwide or about 37% of all Christians. It originated with the 16th century Reformation, a movement against what its followers perceived to be errors in the Catholic Church.

The Bereans are a sect of Protestant dissenters from the church of Scotland, who take their title from, and profess to follow the example of, the ancient Bereans, in building their system of faith and practice upon the Scriptures alone, without regard to any human authority whatever. The Nature of Salvation: Protestants believe that all that is necessary for salvation is faith in Jesus Christ and acceptance of his crucifixion as payment for our sins.

Catholics, on the other hand, believe that, while Jesus' death on the cross made it possible for people to enter heaven, everybody must still "work out their own salvation in.
